Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) emerged as a premier research centre of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in 1965. The very next year, a modest library was established at the Institute. In 1984, it was upgraded to Scientific Information Division (SID) and in 2002 it was given the status of the National Library of Physical Sciences (NLPS). SID is the central source of scientific and technical information not only for PAEC but also for other R&D organizations and universities in the country. It is responsible for acquisition, storage, retrieval and dissemination of scientific & technical information On-line as well as manual retrospective literature searches are frequently carried out for R & D work of researchers.

SID has seven sections namely Computerized Information Management Section (CIMS), International Nuclear Information System (INIS), Library Management Section (LMS), Library Record Management Section (LRMS), Reference & Circulation Section (RCS), Services Management Section (SMS) and Scientific & Technical Report Section (STRS). The Division is also providing printing and bindery facilities to whole PAEC besides strong support of reprographic facilities including photocopying, microfiche reading/scanning/printing etc. SID package scheme for PAEC offers many services on annual subscription basis.
